18 Chinese immigrants held in raid
Cape Town - The Hawks and home affairs immigration inspectorate arrested 18 Chinese nationals for suspected illegal immigration on Wednesday.
They conducted a series of simultaneous, nationwide raids on the operations of ZTE - a Chinese IT company based in South Africa, the home affairs department said in a statement.
"The raids were carried out at the premises of ZTE in Johannesburg, Cape Town, and Port Elizabeth, which resulted in the detention of 18 Chinese nationals - 17 males and one female.
This was in line with Home Affairs Minister Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma and government's efforts to stop illegal immigration into South Africa using fraudulent documents.
