Mokopane - Two men have been arrested after they allegedly hijacked a van and stole cigarettes worth R100 000 at Parakisi village, in Limpopo, on Friday.

Lieutenant Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe said three suspects allegedly hijacked the van before driving to another location and offloading the cigarettes into their getaway vehicle.

Police gave chase and two suspects were arrested. Both the hijacked vehicle and the getaway car were recovered.

Police also confiscated the cigarettes and an illegal firearm, said Ngoepe.

The suspects, aged 36 and 20, would appear in the Mokerong Magistrate's Court on Monday on charges of car hijacking and possession of a firearm without a licence.

The third suspect was still on the run.
