2 boys killed in N2 accident

2010-07-31 14:14
Johannesburg - Two boys were killed and their mother and brother were critically injured when they were hit by a car while trying to cross the N2 Highway near Shaka's Rock on Friday, paramedics said.

Netcare911 spokesperson Jeff Wicks said the mother, in her forties, and her three boys, between the ages of seven and ten, tried to cross the highway north of Durban when they were struck by a car.

"The seven-year-old and ten-year-old were killed on impact and their bodies were flung into the grass median in the centre of the highway," said Wicks.

The mother and eight-year-old son were found lying in the fast lane of the highway.

"They were lucky not to have been hit by another car," said Wicks. Traffic on the highway was minimal at the time.

Both sustained serious injuries to multiple parts of the body and were rushed to Stanger Hospital.

The male driver of the car was uninjured.
