Cape Town - Two women were killed in separate fire incidents in Cape Town on Saturday, a city official said.

A woman was burnt to death in a shack fire at the Rasta Kamp informal settlement between Somerset West and Strand, said City of Cape Town's disaster risk management spokesperson, Wilfred Solomons-Johannes.

"Leona Dikane, 49, sustained fatal burn wounds and was declared deceased," he said.

It was suspected the fire was caused by an electrical fault.

Solomons-Johannes said the fire destroyed eight structures, leaving 32 people displaced.

In a separate incident, Annelise Holmes, 28 was burnt to death in a shack fire in Olieboom informal settlement.

The cause of the fire was unknown.

"[We want to] appeal to residents to be fire safe when working with open flames," Solomons-Johannes said.
