2 bust with contraband cigarettes

Johannesburg - Police arrested two men found with contraband cigarettes with a street value of R1.7m near Botswana's border with South Africa, North West police said on Friday.

Captain Amanda Funani said a Bangladeshi national and a South African were arrested near the Kopfontein border post on Wednesday.

Police confiscated contraband cigarettes with an estimated street value of R1.7m, five cellphones and cash after searching two parked panel vans and a car. Two other people ran away.

    That's not good news for me. I buy my cigs for R5=50 or R53=00 a carton but have never asked why they so cheap. Got some thing to do with SARS I believe but if it's true just think of how heavily these cigs are taxed.
