Polokwane – Two elderly citizens have been killed in two separate incidents in Gauteng and Limpopo, police said on Friday.

In Gauteng, a 76-year-old woman was found dead in her home in Lenasia Extension 13, south of Johannesburg, on Thursday.

Police spokesperson Captain Molefe Mokoena said the woman had been strangled to death. The motive was not yet clear.

"The case is still quite fresh and we are investigating. At this stage, there doesn’t seem to be any indication of robbery or forced entry. Investigations are continuing."

In Limpopo, police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe said the lifeless body of 81-year-old Gubai Johannes Mndaweni was discovered at a river just outside his village in Mashau Thenga, Levubu, near Thohoyandou.

Ngoepe said a post-mortem would determine the cause of death.

Murder cases were launched in both incidents.

No arrests have yet been made.

Anyone with information which can lead to the arrest of the assailants should contact their nearest police station, or the crime stop on 08600 10111, or the crime line SMS 32211.
