Cape Town – Two men have been arrested for allegedly holding up two women with a toy gun near the Kuyasa train station in Khayelitsha, Western Cape police said on Tuesday.

The women were walking to the station a week ago when they were accosted in the dark, said police spokesperson Captain Frederick van Wyk. Two men took their handbags and ran off.

Officers arrested a man on Sunday night and recovered a handbag at his house.

It contained one of the women’s ID books, as well as bank and shopping cards. It also held 15 cellphones that are believed to have been taken from other people.

Van Wyk said the man led police to his alleged accomplice. Police recovered another handbag and a toy gun.

The men, aged 22 and 25, are expected to appear in the Khayelitsha Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday for armed robbery.
