Johannesburg – Two men have been arrested following the murder of an off-duty Ekurhuleni metro police officer at a lake in Springs, Gauteng police said on Friday.

They were arrested in Daveyton on Thursday and found in possession of a stolen bakkie, two firearms and a knife, Lieutenant Colonel Lungelo Dlamini said.

Coert Jordaan, a member of the EMPD's equestrian unit, was killed while fishing at Aston Lake in Springs on his day off on Wednesday. He had been stabbed. His bakkie, service pistol, wallet and cellphone were taken.

The men will face charges of murder, possession of unlicensed firearms, and possession of a stolen vehicle when they appear in the Springs Magistrate’s Court.
