Johannesburg - Two people were killed when the car they were travelling in crashed into a truck in Germiston, Ekurhuleni metro police said on Friday.

Spokesperson Kobeli Mokheseng said the accident happened around 20:30 on Thursday.

"A blue Toyota Corolla sedan collided with a white Mercedes Benz truck full of waste."

The 38-year old driver of the car died on arrival at Natalspruit hospital and the 25 year-old-woman passenger was declared dead at the scene.

"It is not clear at this stage what actually caused the accident," said Mokheseng.

Police were investigating.
