Durban - Two men were missing at sea and
presumed to have drowned in separate incidents in the Eastern Cape and
KwaZulu-Natal on Tuesday
A 29-year-old Belgian man went missing while
swimming with his brother on Monday, said National Sea Rescue Institute spokesperson
Craig Lambinon.
"It appears that the brothers had gone
for a swim at the beach adjacent to the Ntafufu River mouth [in Port St Johns]
when, according to the 23-year-old brother, they were swept out to sea by what
we believe were strong rip currents," he said.
"The 23-year-old managed to get to
shore, but had lost sight of his brother in the large seas."
After an extensive sea and shoreline search
it was presumed that the 29-year-old had drowned, he said.
The police dog unit would search for the
missing man on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, in St Lucia, on the KwaZulu-Natal
north coast, one man died in a boating accident and another was still missing
at after a fishing boat capsized in the surf between the St Lucia estuary mouth
and First Rocks, said Netcare 911 spokesperson Jeff Wicks.
Seven people were injured in the accident on
Tuesday morning, he said.
The private fishing boat was still missing.
