Johannesburg - Two men sustained serious injuries after being stabbed and left on the side of the road to die, paramedics said on Saturday.

In KwaZulu-Natal, Rescue Care paramedics were called to a stabbing incident on Joyce Road in Newlands on Friday night just after 20:30, spokesperson Garrith Jamieson said.

Upon their arrival they found a man in his 20s lying on the side of the road with serious injuries. He was treated with advanced life support and stabilised on the scene before he was taken to a nearby hospital.

The cause of the stabbing was still unclear, Jamieson said. Police are investigating.

In a separate incident in Pretoria, Gauteng, a 58-year-old man was found along the N4 near Rossouw street in Pretoria with multiple stab wounds in a critical state.

Netcare911 paramedics were called to the scene around 19:25. The man was treated at the scene before being transported to a nearby hospital for further treatment.
