Durban - Two people were killed and another seriously injured after they were hit by a vehicle in Vryheid, northern KwaZulu-Natal, on Thursday, paramedic services said.

EMS spokesperson Robert Mckenzie said paramedics had rushed to the R34, near Vryheid, early in the day.

"Sadly, a woman, aged about 30, and a man, estimated to be 45 years old, have sustained fatal injuries in this crash. A man in his 40s was treated for serious injuries at the scene."

Mckenzie said paramedics had transported the injured man to hospital for additional medical care.
