Johannesburg - Cigarette smugglers have shot and wounded two Zimbabweans in Musina, Limpopo police said on Thursday.

Colonel Ronel Otto said the Zimbabwean men were walking near a farm on Wednesday when a group of men carrying contraband cigarettes fired at them.

Otto said the two tried to escape, but were hit.

One man was shot in the leg and the other in the back.

They were taken to a hospital where they were recovering.

"We have opened an attempted murder docket, and the investigation is underway to trace the suspects," said Otto.
