Johannesburg - Twenty two motorists were arrested for speeding in Johannesburg, metro police said on Sunday.

"They were arrested along the Golden Highway in Lenasia, in Newlands and along the N1 near Grasmere Toll Plaza over the weekend," said spokesperson Chief Supt Wayne Minnaar.

One of the motorists, travelling in a Mercedes-Benz, was also charged with drunk driving.

"He became aggressive after officers stopped him for clocking 182km/h on a 120km zone. Officers discovered that he was driving under the influence of alcohol."

Another motorist threatened an officer by showing him a loaded gun after he was stopped for speeding in Lenasia, Minnaar said.

"The officer wrestled the motorist to the ground and handcuffed him. On the way to the police station, he tried to bribe the officer with a R100 note."

The 23-year-old driver was charged with speeding, threatening an officer with a firearm and corruption.
