Johannesburg - Twenty-eight people were injured, eight seriously, when a minibus taxi and a bakkie collided in Verulam on Saturday, KwaZulu-Natal paramedics said.

Netcare 911 spokesperson Jeff Wicks said the vehicles collided at the junction of Wicks Street and the R102 on Saturday evening.

"Both vehicles skidded to a halt in the junction and most of the injured managed to clamber from the wreckage," he said.

The taxi driver, however, had to be cut free.

The injured were transported to Osindisweni Hospital for further treatment.

It's a pity the homicidal driver escaped the Grim Reaper, who was probably away for the long weekend.
