3 200 new houses for Cape Town

2012-09-11 10:18

Cape Town - The largest integrated housing development scheme ever in the Western Cape will be officially unveiled next month, a construction company said on Monday.

"A show village is already under construction. The public will be invited to a launch scheduled for Saturday, October 13 when they’ll be able to inspect show houses," Power Construction spokesperson Dennis Cruywagen said.

A total of 3 200 housing units would be built in the Zeekoeivlei, Grassy Park, and Strandfontein area in Cape Town over the next five years.

The new development would be split into three units, On The Vlei, New Horizons, and Pelican Park, and would be spread over 80 hectares.

Councillor Ernest Sonnenberg, mayoral committee member for human settlements, said: "We’re proud to launch this project as one of the City of Cape Town's first integrated developments that crosses different ranges of affordability. We’re glad to be part of this historic project."

Chairperson and founder of the Power Group, Graham Power, said getting involved in the project was a chance to give something back to Capetonians.

"Building affordable housing is not very profitable, but this is not about money. This is about giving back.

"Nothing beats seeing the excitement on the face of someone who has never owned a house when they receive a key which says you now have your own roof over your head."

Was that so difficult. Instead of shoving tax money into pockets it was used on what it is supposed to be used on. So easy and making a difference to so many people. Well done DA!

Nah guys, this is clearly a biased and untrue report by white owned media to support white monopoly imperialists or...... this is housing for only whites, cos the DA only looks after whites.. or..... this is an opportunistic seizing by the DA of an ANC housing scheme - cos as uncle zuna tells us - they're awesome at service delivery!

      denis.dendrinos - 2012-09-11 11:14

Amendment: "Thanks to the Protests, DA wouldn't have bothered...Violence is the language they undestand."

This is so planned by the DA they wait for the anc to bitch bitch bitch and then they throw some brilliant plan in their face... They did it with the schools and now this. Well done!

      joe.mangena.1 - 2012-09-11 11:39

No party can fail to deliver services to 1 province, sure you know that as well, so this isn't worth celebrating.

      jean.tredoux.5 - 2012-09-11 11:45

Well the anc provincial gov are in the exact same position as the DA, even in a better position cos they can get easier support from our national gov, and it is worth celebrating cos the DA is succeeding in their province where the anc just continues to fail.
