Johannesburg - Three people were murdered over the long weekend, Eastern Cape police said on Tuesday.
Police spokesperson Superintendent Mike Fatyela said a 35-year-old man was shot and killed by two gunmen on Monday afternoon.
The man was apparently coming home from a tavern near Mthatha.
The alleged gunmen were arrested by police on Monday evening.
They will appear in the court on a charge of murder and the possession of an unlicensed firearm, police said.
Police spokesperson Superintendent Loxton Kupiso said two people were arrested for murder in Alice over the weekend.
In one incident a 67-year-old woman stabbed a 46-year-old woman.
There was apparently a long-standing feud between the two.
On Saturday night a man was smoking dagga with his friends in Khayalethu when three people approached him and tried to take his dagga.
He stabbed one of the them to death and the other two fled.
