Johannesburg - Three Eastern Cape men have been arrested for stock theft in Kareedouw, near Humansdorp, police said on Wednesday.

Warrant Officer Gerda Swart said they were arrested on Monday after slaughtering two cows.

It was believed that one of the cows was still alive when the meat was cut from it, she said. They were slaughtered on different farms at different times.

Police found fresh meat worth R5 000 in one of the men's houses in Stormriver.

Swart said the men each faced two charges of stock theft.
