Johannesburg - Three men were arrested after robbing a shop in Kagiso, outside Krugersdorp, on Monday, police said.

Warrant Officer Solomon Sibiya said the men, aged 27, 28 and 32, were arrested around 1pm after being detained by people in the area.

The shop manager was inside paying for a milk delivery, when one of the men pushed him from behind.

When he tried to see who was pushing him, he was hit on the left eye with a sharp object. The men then ordered him and his assistants to lie on the floor.

Sibiya said a robber with a firearm forced one of them to show him where the money was kept.

The robbers took R4 000 cash and R3 000 worth of airtime vouchers.

As they were running away, one of their victims blew a whistle and people in the vicinity gave chase, catching them and assaulting them before handing them over to the police.

The money and vouchers were recovered, and an unlicensed firearm and a knife were seized.

One of the robbers was injured and taken to hospital. The others were being held at Kagiso police station.

Sibiya said police were investigating and the men were expected to appear soon in the Krugersdorp Magistrate's Court on charges of robbery.

Well done catching criminals, but taking the law into our hands is a mockery to the job welldone. Temper! Where is Kagiso in dealing criminal matters and upholding the sanctity of the law.
