3 arrested after car chase

Johannesburg - Three alleged house robbers were arrested after a high-speed car chase in Kempton Park on Friday, Gauteng police and a security company said.

An Alpha security guard reacted to a power failure at one of the company's clients in Mikana Street in Kempton Park on Friday, company operations manager Morne le Grange said.

As he left the address, he noticed a Toyota outside the house next door. It did not have any number plates. Two men were standing in front of the house's gates. When the guard drove past them, the men got into the Toyota and followed him.

The guard reacted to a call-out at another client in Kurkhout Street.

On his way there he stopped a police vehicle and told the officers about the Toyota.

Police followed the Toyota and a high-speed chase ensued.

It led to Pretoria Road in the direction of Tembisa.

Three Ekurhuleni metro police cars also responded to radio alerts.

The Toyota drove into the veld at Kaalfontein and the occupants jumped out and ran. All were caught.

Police spokesperson Cobus Holloway said they found a high-tech computer system with flat LCD screen in the Toyota.

The security guard later took police to the address in Mikana Street. The computer had been stolen from there. The Toyota had been stolen in Durban.

The alleged robbers were linked with various other housebreakings.

They would appear in the Kempton Park Magistrate's Court on Monday.
