Durban - Three men were arrested following the murder of a Tongaat couple and the attempted murder of their son a week ago, KwaZulu-Natal police said on Thursday.
"A 26-year-old man was arrested in Burbreeze, Tongaat on Wednesday morning and the other two suspects were arrested in the afternoon," Colonel Jay Naicker said.
When police arrested the 26-year-old they recovered a knife, two firearms, and his blood-stained clothing.
"Prominent businessman Balaram Reddy, 56, and his wife Maliga Reddy, 52, were shot dead while asleep in bed [last] Thursday morning," Colonel Jay Naicker said.
Their son Nivashin Reddy, 27, was shot in the lower back and stabbed several times when he tried to fight the attackers off.
"It is alleged that Balaram, Maliga and Nivashin, were asleep in their home when three unknown armed men forced their way in through the back door and attacked them."
Other family members on the premises were not attacked. The motive for the killings was believed to be robbery.
The three men, aged between 21 and 26, would appear in the Tongaat Magistrate's Court on Friday.
