3 arrested for rape, muder in Eastern Cape

Johannesburg - Three men have been arrested for the rape and murder of a 37-year-old woman in Mlungisi village, Stutterheim, in the Eastern Cape, police said on Monday.

The three, aged between 22 and 25, were arrested on Sunday evening, said Lieutenant Siphokazi Mawisa.

Local residents called the police when the woman was found strangled near the local graveyard on Saturday.

She was seen at a tavern earlier.

Police found she had been sexually assaulted and robbed of her cellphone.

The three men would appear in the Stutterheim Magistrate's Court on Wednesday.
