Johannesburg - Three foreigners were arrested during a raid by immigration officials on Tuesday, the home affairs department said.

The two women from India and a man from Pakistan were arrested in different parts of Johannesburg, spokesperson Ronnie Mamoepa said in a statement.

"The first Indian woman is alleged to have registered herself as being married to a South African national, but was found to be residing with her real Indian husband," Mamoepa said.

She would appear in a Springs court on Wednesday.

Another woman from India was alleged to have fraudulently acquired South African passports for her two children, by falsely registering South Africa as the children's place of birth.

She would appear in a Benoni court on Wednesday.
