Bloemfontein – Three Born To Kill (BTK) gang members were arrested on Tuesday for their alleged roles in a murder in Bloemfontein, the Hawks said.

A sting operation by the Hawks in conjunction with police crime intelligence, detective services, and a tactical response team, made the arrests, Captain S’fiso Nyakane said.

A group of suspects believed to be part of the local gang, allegedly attacked a 22-year-old man at a shop in Freedom Square, Bloemfontein, on November 12. They stabbed him with knives and other sharp objects. He died on the scene.

The three were expected to appear in the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.

Four other suspects Mosweu Samson, 22, Tokelo George, 24, Thabiso Martin, 25, and Thabang Hige, 20 were arrested for the same crime in November.

In 2015, three gangs, BTK, Triple Six (666) and Maroma were involved in territorial clashes.

On September 18, 2015, a Grade 11 pupil was stabbed to death at a school, allegedly by a Maroma gang member. Three people were arrested. On September 23, residents took to the streets and confronted the gang members after messages threatening violence began circulating.

Young men wielding guns and knives allegedly vandalised property and attacked pupils in Petunia, Kagisho, Ikaelelo, Marang, Gonyane, in Bloemfontein.
