3 illegal miners killed underground in FS

Johannesburg - Three illegal miners have been killed at Harmony's Masimong and Tshepong mines in the Free State, SABC news reported on Sunday.

The bodies had gunshot wounds, or head wounds inflicted with a sharp object, police spokesperson Captain Stephen Thakeng told the broadcaster.

Other illegal miners brought their bodies to the surface on Saturday.

"At this stage we have three people who died. Two are injured and one other has been discharged [from hospital]. These two that are in hospital were attacked at Masimong mine and are under police guard."

Thakeng said a fight over who could mine where had broken out between Sotho and Shona illegal miners.
