Johannesburg - Three children died in a house fire in Estcourt on Sunday morning, KwaZulu-Natal police said.
Police director Phindile Radebe said a house caught fire around 2am, while a family of seven people were sleeping.
Five of the family managed to escape but the children were trapped inside the burning house. They were Siphesihle Ndlovu, 5, Thabelo Ndlovu, 4, and Thando Ndlovu, 2.
"We opened an inquest. We are still investigating the cause of fire but family members say they left a two-plate stove on when they went to bed," said Radebe.
Among the survivors was a two-month-old baby and a six-year-old child, who were treated in hospital for smoke inhalation.
