3 killed in Cape Town fire
Cape Town - Three people, including a 2-year-old baby girl, were killed when their homes were gutted by fires in Cape Town, an official said on Saturday.
One man was killed on Saturday and 16 other people were left displaced after eight shacks were gutted by fires which began at Sweethomes informal settlement just after midnight, disaster management spokesperson Wilfred Solomons-Johannes said.
Another man was killed in a separate incident when his shack caught fire in Belnedere, near Macassar at around 11.30 on Saturday, he said.
Solomons-Johannes said four shack were engulfed by flames at Siyahlala informal settlement in De Noon on Saturday morning. The fire left four people without homes.
The identity of the two men who died in the fires on Saturday are not yet known.
Meanwhile, on Friday, 2-year-old Cassidy Spencer died when a fire broke out in her home while she was sleeping. The fire destroyed eight backyard dwellings and three houses. Nineteen people were displaced.
Solomons-Johannes said the displaced were given food parcels, clothing, blankets and building material.
The cause of the fires was being investigated, he said.
