Johannesburg - Three people died when two cars collided head-on at the Val De Vie turn-off in Paarl on Friday morning, paramedics said.

"The driver of the first vehicle, a 34-year-old female, was trapped in her vehicle," ER24 spokesperson Luyanda Majija said.

She was freed from the car but succumbed to her injuries 90 minutes later, said Majija.

The two men in the other car had already died.

"The driver was found ejected from the vehicle whilst his passenger was still in his seat," Majija said.

Police are investigating the cause of the accident.
