Johannesburg - Three people who were travelling on one
scooter have been injured in an accident in Nietgedacht, Johannesburg
paramedics say.
ER24 spokesperson Vanessa Jackson said all three people, in
their mid-20's, had been on the scooter when they were hit by a taxi.
Two of them were critically injured and had several broken
limbs, said Jackson.
"Paramedics immediately began to stabilise them and
one of them, in the most critical condition [was] airlifted to hospital."
Jackson said the most critical of the three had badly
broken and mangled legs.
"The other young man had lost a lot of blood." He
was taken to hospital by ambulance.
The third scooter-passenger escaped the incident with moderate
injuries.
Metro police spokesperson Wayne Minnaar said the taxi
driver was later arrested after he fled the scene.
A woman who witnessed the accident had chased the taxi
driver in her car.
"[She] drove for about five kilometres following the
taxi driver".
She also alerted police and he was arrested, said Minnaar.
The taxi driver will appear in the Randburg Magistrate's
Court on Monday to face charges of leaving the scene of an accident and
reckless and negligent driving.
