Durban - Three taxi owners were killed and two others were injured when gunmen opened fire on them at Sundumbili near Eshowe, say northern KwaZulu-Natal police.
Superintendent Vishnu Naidoo said the men, four of whom were taxi owners and the fifth a member of the Sundumbili Taxi Association, were in a BMW when occupants of a VW Golf opened fire on them with AK-47 rifles on Nembe Road on Monday.
Bhekissa Zungu, 47, Bonginkosi Zungu, 43 and Kopanelo Molefe, 52 were killed at 18:00.
Mzi Nkabinde and Lindokuhle Nkabinde were seriously wounded and were taken to hospital.
Naidoo said police were investigating the possibility that the attack was motivated by in-fighting within the Sundumbili Taxi Association.
No arrests have been made.
