335 arrested in Soweto over the weekend

Johannesburg - A total of 335 people were arrested around Soweto at the weekend, police said on Sunday.

At least seven people were arrested for rape, one for multiple murders and 23 for drunken driving and 10 for common robbery, said Warrant Officer Kay Makhubela.

"We had other cases such as shoplifting, possession of stolen property and theft, assault, and possession of stolen motor vehicles," said Makhubela.

"More than 37 were arrested for possession of and dealing in drugs."

All the suspects would appear in courts around Roodepoort, Meadowlands, Kliptown, Protea, Lenasia and Vereeniging on Monday.
