Johannesburg - A police constable and three others appeared in the Kriel Magistrate's Court on Monday for allegedly robbing businesses, Mpumalanga police said.

The case was postponed until May 3 for a formal bail application, Colonel Leonard Hlathi said.

Constable Collen Tshepo Skhosana, 28, Aaron Mahlangu, 28, Themba Gule, 27, and Cannon Mabindisa, 27, would remain in police custody until then.

They were arrested on Saturday after allegedly robbing two local shops in Blinkpan and Rietspruit, near Middelburg.

Hlathi said they recovered two firearms, ammunition and stolen goods at Skhosana's home.
