Johannesburg - Four men have been convicted of killing a Free State policeman two years ago, police said on Tuesday.
The Phuthaditjhaba Regional Court found Sam Mokoena, Morajang Monaheng, Thabiso Sekwati and Mzwakhe Maseko guilty of murder and robbery on Monday, said police spokesperson Mmako Mophiring.
Seven men attacked Inspector Mopedi Ramatlapeng on October 21 2009 when he came to the aid of a man who was assaulted and stabbed over a hat in a QwaQwa tavern.
Ramatlapeng was stabbed multiple times in the head, forearms and back.
The attackers took his wallet, jacket and cellphone, and stripped his police vehicle of its battery and radio.
The Hawks later arrested the four after finding them in possession of Ramatlapeng's jacket and cellphone.
Mokoena and Monaheng were also found guilty of assaulting Mathapane.
Sentencing will take place on November 8.
The three other assailants are still being sought.
