Johannesburg - Four people were arrested in Boitekong, in the North West, for public violence during a protest on Saturday morning, police said.

They were arrested after allegedly blockading roads and looting shops, Colonel Sabata Mokgwabone. "The unrest in the area started on Thursday when residents from the Dichibidung section (Sunrise Park) went on rampage," he said.

Residents were protesting after their electricity was disconnected.

The four, aged between 20 and 27, were expected to appear in Rustenburg Magistrate's Court soon.

Mokgwabone said police would continue to monitor the area.
