Johannesburg - Four men were arrested for speeding on Sunday during an operation on the R59 southbound, Ekurhuleni metro police said.

"A 31-year-old on a motorcycle was caught doing 197km/h and a 43-year-old motorcyclist was clocked at 161km/h," spokesperson Wilfred Kgasago said in a statement.

"A 31-year-old sedan driver was stopped for doing 161km/h and a 46-year-old driver in a light delivery vehicle was trapped at 197km/h... All four were arrested for reckless and negligent driving."

The men were granted bail of between R500 and R1 000 and were expected to appear in the Alberton Magistrate's Court soon, Kgasago said.

Two other motorists were fined R1 500 each.

Kgasago said the operation was conducted after the metro received complaints of speeding on the R59 over weekends.
