Cape Town - Four men accused of trafficking at least three women have appeared in the Cape Town Magistrate's Court, the Cape Argus reported on Wednesday.

The newspaper reported that the men were charged with multiple counts of rape, human trafficking, assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm, kidnapping, and sexual exploitation.

They appeared in court on Tuesday and the case was postponed to 23 July for a formal bail application.

According to the report, the men allegedly recruited or trafficked the three women - from Johannesburg, KwaZulu-Natal, and the Western Cape - and used them as sex workers.

The State reportedly alleged that the men lived off the money the women made as prostitutes.

The Cape Argus reported that more charges were expected.
