4 killed, scores injured by lightning strikes in KZN

Durban – Four people were killed and 42 injured by lightning strikes in KwaZulu-Natal over the weekend, the provincial emergency medical services said on Monday.

On Saturday, three churchgoers were killed and 38 injured when lightning struck a tree in a veld in KwaMachi, near Harding, spokesperson Robert McKenzie said.

On Sunday around 19:30, paramedics were called to a house in Ndwedwe, in the Ilembe district, where a 28-year-old woman was killed when lightning struck the house she was in. Another person in the house was seriously injured.

In a separate incident near the Wosiyane Court, also in Ndwedwe, three people were seriously injured when lightning struck their house.
