4th man in court for Gumtree ad murder

Cape Town - A fourth man will appear in court in connection with a man who was killed after going to meet apparent buyers of his BMW, Cape Town police said on Wednesday.

Captain Frederick van Wyk said the man, 52, was arrested in Hazendal, Athlone, on Monday night.

He would appear in the Mitchells Plain Magistrate's Court on Thursday.

The man and three others - Rameez Felix, 29, Jason Elias, 25, and Shawaal Staggie, 30 - are accused of killing Olwyn Cowley, 21, whom they contacted through classifieds website Gumtree.

The three appeared in court on Monday and their case was postponed to September 10. The group faces charges of murder, kidnapping, hijacking and illegal possession of firearms and ammunition.

Cowley met the buyers at about 17:30 on Thursday at a petrol station in Century City. His family tried phoning his cellphone after that but the calls were rejected.

His body was found at Monwabisi beach on Friday with two bullet wounds to the head. His silver BMW 325 TI was later found in Mitchells Plain.
