4th person held for Modimolle attack

2012-01-14 16:27

Modimolle - A fourth person believed to have participated in the brutal attack in Modimolle on a woman and the killing of her son, has been arrested.

The 30-year-old was arrested in a pre-dawn raid in Hammanskral on Saturday, said Limpopo's Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi.

He was believed to be one of three workers who gang-rape the woman, allegedly acting on the instruction of her estranged husband, Johan Kotzé.

Kotzé, who had been on the run since the January 4 incident, was arrested on Wednesday.

He and one of the alleged attackers appeared in the Modimolle Magistrate’s Court on Friday and the case was postponed to February 10.

Christmas does come twice a year...this is good news and a stepping stone towards justice.

      RPhiri - 2012-01-14 16:34

What I love about this Johan Kotzé story is that through this heinous act of crime, people of all races have united as one, under the banner of justice. There's one thing that all races can agree upon; that we are all fed up with the level of crime in the country.

      stefani.devilliers - 2012-01-14 16:44

RPhiri, I agree, we are all victims alike and we should stand together and combat crime, not defend the criminal of our race. Hard punishment for hard criminals, no matter the race!

      RPhiri - 2012-01-14 16:56

Thank you for seeing my point Stefani. Our colours may be different but once we are inflicted by heinous crimes we bleed the same.

      RPhiri - 2012-01-14 18:45

      Margie my friend, Thank you!

      John - 2012-01-14 19:44

Johan Kotzé to be killed by stones.

      Slow torture.

@Phiri. I suppose the ANCWL will be at the forefront of protests in court on Monday. But check who will be in the crowd. Doesn't it make it strange?

      RPhiri - 2012-01-14 17:07

To a certain degree i agree with your statement, but unity isnt strange when we are all fighting for the same cause my brother. We should cast race issues aside and put justice at the forefront.

  • jandreleroux - 2012-01-14 16:43

Great they caught him! Hopefully swift justice will be served. Just a pity nothing can bring back the dead! Or make up for the hurt of those left behind!

  • david.lebethe - 2012-01-14 17:12

@Phiri. What you are saying is idealistic as long as our white compatriots remain the same. Just browse this pages to get what I mean.

      Irene - 2012-01-14 17:24

Holy shyte but you're dof!!! Why not read the comments that Phiri makes and the sense he speaks in comparison to morons like yourself and Veggieburger? If you can't see the distinction, then there is no hope pal.

      RPhiri - 2012-01-14 18:14

Change is not idealistic. Prejudice is the mother of all racism, we should not assume that all whites are racists and nor should whites assume that all blacks are criminals, if we can look beyond the colour spectrum we will be able to reach consensus, that hatred should be directed towards criminals, regardless of the criminals race. Acceptance of each other is a stepping stone towards reconcilliation, by merely thinking backwards than our minds will inevitably lead to our history repeating itself once these thoughts are put into practice. Imagine if a rainbow was only white or just black? the unity of colours creates a beautiful image after apartheid's storm. Give change a chance

      stefani.devilliers - 2012-01-14 20:35

Thank you RPhiri. All whites are NOT racists!

      Rebekka - 2012-01-14 21:13

David.L, I wish you could see into the hearts of so many people in this country. I can see how you say what you do, and I feel your anguish about what happened in the past, but if you soften your heart, and try to imagine what it must be like for those of us who had NO part in perpetuating the hell that was imposed on some of our society, you might be willing to give some space in your heart to your fellow men and women who, like you, want a real life and a reasonable chance at a good future. What this Kotze character did was unthinkable evil, and although he is a reflection of what our past evils were, it is very important that those who were the victims, do not today just accept the cloak of accusations that unfairly caused the past evils to begin with. Just like the Holocaust gained momentum due to propaganda, fear and hysteria, so our past was and is speckled with the same. I refuse to bear responsibility for the horrific things my ancestors did. The subjugation of a whole people and the abuse of women and children is not something I understand or condone. Phiri might be idealistic, but we have to just keep on trying- out of compassion for one's brothers and sisters, regardless of their skin tone. What Veggie alluded to about rape has real merit, but having said that, for someone to do what those beastly men did, they would have to be barbarian to begin with. There is change David, just keep on looking for it and encouraging it when you see it - its the only way forward.

      frans.h.marais - 2012-01-16 05:35

Stefani, that is exactly what RPhiri also said and he is clearly black. Unfortunately there remains a high percentage of racists on both sides of the colour line in South Africa...if that can change, there is hope for the future. As RPhiri says, prejudice is causing most of the problems...

  • SergeD69 - 2012-01-14 17:43

@ RPhiri - Have you considered politics? Run for president. You will get my vote.

      RPhiri - 2012-01-14 18:15

      Thank you Serge!

      frans.h.marais - 2012-01-16 05:13

I agree fully! RPhiri should be the new President of the ANCYL! And many young white and black South African can learn from him. He'll get my vote as well!

  • Grant - 2012-01-14 17:50

I'll repeat my revious comment : Kotze is insane and would be better off hanged but he will spend the rest of his life in Sterkfontein or similar.

      Bruce Shabangu - 2012-01-14 19:31

Please tell us the reason, why you thinks so

  • Heinrich - 2012-01-14 20:27

I have not been following this case closely, so perhaps someone can fill me in. Initially it was reported that the three men gang raped the lady at gunpoint. The lady denied this when questioned. My question is : who made the initial report?

      stefani.devilliers - 2012-01-14 20:39

I think the police portrayed it like that via the media so that the rapests can feel like victims and come forward. That's what I think.

      Kyle - 2012-01-14 21:10

johan + 3 makes 4... simple maths... it has always been maintain that johan had hired 3 men. please show men the signed statment from the women showing she denies this.... untill then wait for the trail...

      Heinrich - 2012-01-15 09:18

Thanks, stefani,Kyle. The question remains unanswered.

  • Buti - 2012-01-15 06:59

Those guys sound very clear they were very excited by that time when they get an offer for this dirty job. Aftr committing this henous crime they didn't handle themselves from the police. For that reason I wish they must get a serious punishment so next time they mustn't joke about it when they get out from jail.
