5 appear for NFP murders

2012-10-15 19:37

Durban - Five people accused of killing two National Freedom Party members appeared in the Tugela Ferry Magistrate's Court on Monday, KwaZulu-Natal police said.

The case against Felamandla Simon Mkhize, 56, Nonsindiso Dlamini, 22, Mkhonzeni Ntuli, 37, Mlindeli Mchunu, 31, and Mzonjani Mgwaba, 41, was postponed until 7 December, Captain Thulani Zwane said.

They would then appear in the KwaZulu-Natal High Court in Pietermaritzburg for an indictment.

In May, two NFP members were murdered in an ambush and another was seriously wounded in Msinga, northern KwaZulu-Natal.

Msinga branch chairperson Bongani Shelembe and youth secretary Lungisile Zuma were shot dead while driving back from a constituency meeting.

Thulephi Mbatha was seriously wounded.

Mchunu and Mgwaba were out on bail of R10 000 each, Zwane said.
