5 arrested for brutal Limpopo murder
Johannesburg - Two people, one of them a policeman, were arrested in Magatle, south of Polokwane, on Sunday for killing a man and dismembering his body, Limpopo police said.
Matete Mphahlele, 34, was beaten to death with pick handles by four men and a woman on Tuesday, Lieutenant Colonel Mohale Ramatseba said. They apparently suspected him of planning an armed robbery.
The attackers attempted to throw Mphahlele's body into a pit toilet in Mathibela, near Magatle.
"It is suspected the body could not go through the pit toilet and the body was then cut into pieces, and thrown into the toilet," Ramatseba said.
Three were arrested on Friday evening after the body parts were found.
The five people, aged between 22 and 55, allegedly also severely assaulted Mphahlele's girlfriend before he was killed.
They were expected to appear in the Mahwelereng Magistrate's Court on Monday on charges of kidnapping, assault and murder.
