Johannesburg - Five people were arrested when they were
caught with Johannesburg metro police uniforms in Midrand on Friday, a spokesperson
said.
Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar said the men were
travelling in two VW Polos when they were stopped and searched by the
police.
The uniforms and an illegal firearm were found.
The cars had also since been linked to other crimes, he
said.
"An investigation will be launched as there have
been criminal activities reported this week where bogus cops were
involved."
More arrests were expected.
Bogus Johannesburg metro police officers stole two cars
in Midrand earlier this week.
Police spokesperson Edna Mamonyane said three armed men
in metro police uniforms stopped a Toyota Quantum near Midrand on Wednesday.
They got into the car and took the man driving it to
Eldorado Park, where they left him.
On Monday, people posing as metro police pulled a
motorist over and stole his car on the M1, between the Marlboro and Grayston
road off-ramps.
They left him at the side of the road.
