Durban - At least five people were killed and several were injured when a bus crashed near the KwaZulu-Natal south coast town of Umkomaas on Friday, transport officials said.
KwaZulu-Natal transport spokesperson Nonkululeko Mbatha said a midibus (CORR) driver lost control of his vehicle on the N2 at Umgababa.
The vehicle first careened off the highway between the railings before crashing into the pillar of the bridge.
Netcare 911 spokesperson Chris Botha said that apart from the five dead, six people were critically injured and ten were seriously injured. The driver was among those who were killed.
The accident follows that of a bus crash last week when 11 people were killed on the KwaZulu-Natal south coast near Hibberdene.
A midibus is a classification of single decker buses which are identified as neither being minibuses or full size buses, and can be anywhere between 8 metres and 11 metres long.
