Johannesburg - Five people, including two children died in an accident between Warden and Vrede, Free State police said on Saturday.
"The accident occurred at 6am when a collision between two trucks and a Toyota double cab bakkie occurred on the R103," said Sergeant Mmako Mophiring.
He said the driver of a truck travelling on the left hand lane, lost control of his vehicle and then crashed into another truck travelling on the right hand lane. Both trucks then collided with the bakkie which was travelling on the middle lane.
"Five occupants of the bakkie - a 30-year-old woman, two men, aged 29 and 37, and two children aged two and four - died at the scene. One of the truck drivers was seriously injured and taken to Phumelela District Hospital in Vrede, and the other sustained minor injuries."
The deceased were from the Eastern Cape.
A case of culpable homicide was being investigated, Mophiring said.
