Durban - Five men were arrested and 35 firearms recovered on Thursday in connection with an armed robbery at a gun shop in Durban last month, police said.
Superintendent Vishnu Naidoo said a group of about 15 men held up the manager and staff of Buccaneers Gunshop in central Durban and stole 111 firearms on August 22.
Later that day, a group of men robbed the Jamadars Wholesalers in Isipingo, south of Durban, and a pistol stolen from the gun shop was dropped.
The city's serious and violent crime unit was tasked to investigate the case and following intensive investigations the five men, aged between 28 and 35, were tracked down at their houses in three different suburbs in the Durban area.
Naidoo said the 35 firearms stolen from Buccaneers were recovered.
The men face possible charges of at least two counts of armed robbery and possession of illegal firearms. They are expected to appear in court on Monday.
He said more arrests were expected soon.
