Johannesburg - Five people were arrested on Thursday in connection with the murder of a man in Zakariyya Park, south of Johannesburg, police said.

Warrant Officer Kay Makhubela said police were responding to a tip-off that a man had been beaten to death in the area, near Lenasia.

"Police arrived at a Zakariyya Park church to find a body and five men in bloody clothes. We were told the man was assaulted and locked up in the boot of a vehicle after he allegedly stole some material from the church."

It was alleged the five men were members of the church.

"They will all face charges of murder when they appear in the Vereeniging Magistrate's Court soon," said Makhubela.
