Pretoria - Four men and a woman accused of wounding a Gautrain bus driver are expected to appear in the Pretoria Magistrate's Court on Wednesday.

The five, aged between 22 and 49, allegedly shot and wounded the man on Monday morning in Rooihuiskraal during a trial-run of bus routes in Centurion.

They face charges of malicious damage to property and attempted murder.

On Tuesday, Bombela Concession company spokesperson Kelebogile Machaka said the driver was recovering in a Centurion hospital after undergoing surgery.

"We feel that the Gautrain bus service has been under concerted criminal attack and, as a private sector entity, we can do no more without the strong and decisive intervention of the state," she said.

as a private sector entity you can do no more?......man that's a pretty ace way of saying we can't guarantee the travellers safety.

How can they guarantee the travellers safety? I can't think of any reasonable solutions to this problem. My feeling is it stemmed from bad management going back to the beginning of the saga with these strikes.

once again the total lack of future planning by our crappy government is to blame, when the bright sparks though up the gautrain the violence directed towards it from the taxi industry and other jealous parties should have been expected.
