Johannesburg - Six people appeared in the Willowvale Magistrate's Court on Monday after they allegedly killed a woman during a robbery, Eastern Cape police said.

Four men Mzukisi Mshweshwe, Thulani Manganyelwa, Wandisile Gade, Zukisani Togwana, and domestic worker, Thembeka Mdakana, were arrested on Friday following the murder of Mdakana's employer, Carmen Manthe, police spokesperson Jackson Manatha said.

A sixth suspect, Noluntu Mapolisa, was arrested on Monday.

Manthe previously employed Mapolisa as a domestic worker.

The group allegedly attacked Manthe and her 60-year-old mother at their Willowvale home on May 21.

"They robbed the victims of clothes and other valuables," said Manatha.

Manthe died after being beaten with a hammer.

Her mother was injured.

All six were charged with house robbery and murder.

Mdakana and Mapolisa face an additional charge of conspiracy to commit murder.

"They were not asked to plead. Their case was postponed to 19 June for a bail application."
