Johannesburg - Six people were arrested for being in the possession of R500 000 in counterfeit money in Bronkhorstspruit, Gauteng police said on Friday.
Captain Simon Mashiloane said a 54-year-old man was arrested at a store on Thursday afternoon.
"The man led us to... another man and four ladies at a house in Rethabiseng at around 14:00."
Police received an anonymous tip-off from the public and arrested the man as he was about to buy groceries, allegedly with counterfeit R100 notes.
A total of R1 000 was found in his position. The man then took the police to the house where the other five people were arrested.
"Two of the arrested women transported the forged money from Nelspruit. We suspect that the money was already used at other stores in the province," said Mashiloane.
The six would appear in the Bronkhorstpruit Magistrate's Court on Monday.
