Polokwane - Illegal border crossers are having a hard time as Operation Lockdown continues in Limpopo.
Between January 2 and 8 alone, 638 illegal immigrants were arrested, said provincial roads and transport spokesperson, Boiki Tsedu, on Thursday.
Operation Lockdown is an initiative of the department, in conjunction with the police and army
"The purpose of this campaign is to ensure that we curtail the movement of illegal immigrants, vehicles and goods, but we will also be enforcing road safety," said Tsedu.
Limpopo shares borders with Botswana, Zimbabwe and Mozambique.
Tsedu said more than 200 traffic fines had also been issued to date.
